DIAZ
CROSS LUXURY HIKING TRAIL
This 5 night guided luxury hiking
trail starts at the spectacular Woody Cape in the Eastern Cape.
Woody Cape is the coastal area around Alexandria, some 130 km
northeast of Port Elizabeth and 170 km south east of East
London. The Addo Elephant park has been extended down to the
coast of Woody Cape, it is remote with wide sandy beaches,
towering sand dunes and massive waves pounding the coast.
Hikers can self drive to Port
Alfred from where they will be transferred to the start of the
trail in air-conditioned vehicles. Should hikers fly to either
East London or Port Elizabeth they will be collected (at an
extra cost.) Departure time from Port Alfred to Woody Cape not
later than 09h30.

Should you wish to spend the night prior to your trail or on
completion in East London, we can offer you accommodation at the
Meander Inn, a B&B especially designed to accommodate the hiking
groups. The groups can enjoy a
social get together, braai, and will be briefed with maps and
photographs on the trail. Alternately we can arrange for you to
stay at any other venue of your choice.
Itinerary

Day 1
-
6 hours:
Arriving at the coast, the sight of the blue ocean,
golden beach, sharply etched sand dunes and Bird
Island in the distance is bound to get your adrenaline
flowing. Day one is a fairly long walk to Cannon Rocks
but the terrain is not difficult and a your first
overnight stop at Cannon Rocks is very comfortable.
Cold beers, hot showers and great hospitality awaits
you. |

Day 2 - 4 hours:
On this day
your trail to Bushman’s River will be about 3 to four
hours and includes a visit to Diaz Cross, sightings of
shipwrecks, sheltered bays and time for a swim. Your
accommodation at Bushman’s River affords wonderful
views over the estuary. |

Day 3 - 5 hours:
The walk from
Kenton on Sea to Port Alfred will take 5 hours.
Crossing the Kariega River by boat, more shipwrecks
and much more sandy beaches is all part of this walk.
At the mouth of the well known Kowie River you will
board a luxury cruise boat for a two hour cruise up
this beautiful river and through the canals of the
famous Kowie Marina. |

Day 4 - 3.5 hours:
Today a three
and a half hour walk will bring you to a beautiful
site near the Riet River called Three Sisters. This
area is the most scenic along this coast and your
hosts will enhance your experience by spoiling you to
a picnic lunch on the rocks at the second Sister.
After lunch a one hour walk will bring you to your
next quaint overnight accommodation at the mouth of
the Kleinemond River. |

Day 5 - 1 hour:
After an early morning
cup of coffee, walk for a little more than an hour to
enjoy breakfast at the Fish Point Lighthouse built in
1898. The rest of your walk this morning will take you
past Little Fish Point, Palmiet River and Rocky Point
to arrive at your next destination. Your
accommodation, on the beach, is rustic but clean and
comfortable and this very different small settlement,
from a previous era, will delight you.
After a last breakfast
on the beach the next morning you will be collected
back to your vehicles or the airport. |

A packed picnic
lunch will be provided to take with you each day. you need only
carry your clothes and toiletries, but if you want to enjoy real
colonial decadence, we will even transport these items to your
next overnight point. Should you not wish to walk on one of the
days, we will transport you by vehicle to your next stop. Cash
bars will be available at all overnight stops. Sundowner cruises
and canoe trails are included. Horse riding, river kayaking,
game drives and water-skiing can be arranged at extra cost.
